SSL Installation

By default, all of the major browser (except Internet Explorer) support StartCom as a trusted SSL provider (see the Compatibility page for more information about different browsers and SSL Certificates). If your browser doesn't support StartCom Certificates, you will have to install the certificate below, although it only has to be done once.

Important: If you are not using Windows Vista, you can simply click on the button below to install the StartCom CA Certificate. If you are using Windows Vista, you will have to follow the simple steps at the bottom of the page first.

Windows Vista

Windows Vista implements a new security model, making it more difficult to install Certificate Authorities to allow Internet Explorer to trust a website. The following steps are quick and easy, and will allow you to install certificates for all users of the computer (which is recommended).

  1. Click on the button to download the certificate and save it to your computer
  2. Start | Run | MMC.exe (Select Continue to elevate privileges)
  3. Ctrl - M to add a snap-in
  4. Select the Certificates snap-in
  5. Click Add
  6. Select the option to manage certificates for the Computer account
  7. Leave the default option of Local computer and click Finish
  8. Click OK on the Add or Remove Snap-ins dialog
  9. Expand the Certificates tree
  10. Expand the Trusted Root Certification Authorities tree
  11. Expand the Certificates tree
  12. Click the menu option Action | All Tasks | Import
  13. Click next and select the certificate with the Browse... button
  14. Press Next and then Finish
